Brother Emmanuel Olapade Sent Forth After a Year of Service at SCM National Headquarters

On Friday, 30th October 2026, the National Headquarters in Ibadan held a send-forth service for Brother Emmanuel Olapade, who has completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year with the Student Christian Movement of Nigeria. During the year he served as Accounting Assistant in the finance department.
Brother Emmanuel was reposted from another local government to SCM. The guest speaker, Pastor Modupe Morire, joined the service online by invitation of Pastor Paul, the National Administrative Secretary. She built her exhortation on this point. Speaking in the language of his own profession, she said that when a transaction does not balance, you don’t throw the ledger away; you find the error and correct it. In the same way, God sometimes disrupts our plans because He is correcting our course. Brother Emmanuel may have been looking for a comfortable place to serve, she said, but God was looking for an altar.
She pointed to Genesis 50:20, where Joseph tells his brothers that what they meant for harm God meant for good. She told Brother Emmanuel that his posting to SCM was a divine appointment.
Three Takeaways
- When plans change, God is at work. Disappointment can be God correcting a trajectory for a better destination.
- Balance the spiritual ledger. Careers, marriage, and position are worth pursuing, but the foundation is salvation and a deepening relationship with Jesus Christ. Pastor Morire noted that Brother Emmanuel came to count and balance the books but was also meant to receive something greater: the cancellation of debt through Christ. She added that SCM trains leaders with “the Bible in one hand and the newspaper in the other,” and that the quality of a leader comes from serving. She also told him that once an SCMer, always an SCMer.
- Step into the future with divine assurance. She encouraged him to go out without fear, because God’s “yes” is the one that finally counts. She reminded him of Philippians 1:6: He who began a good work in you will complete it.
A Story of Choosing SCM
Pastor Morire shared her own story. She gave her life to Christ in her final year at the University of Ibadan, where she studied chemistry, and pledged to use her NYSC year to serve God. When she was posted to a company as a chemist, she remembered the pledge, gave up the posting, and chose SCM. She was sent to Benin as a Travelling Secretary, travelling to remote schools at her own expense to start and follow up fellowships. Years later in France, the leadership skills she gained at SCM helped her become the first youth coordinator of the Redeemed French Youth Mission, a role she held for about six years. She later became a pastor in the church there.
A Prayer for the Marketplace
The service closed with prayer. Brother Emmanuel came to the front, and those present gathered around him. The first prayer point was for preserved salvation: that the fire of his new birth and his knowledge of Christ would keep burning, and that the world would not swallow him up.
Thank you, Brother Emmanuel, for a year of faithful service. The Movement wishes you well, and the door stays open for you as a friend and alumnus of SCM.
